Many people make decent money at home by freelance writing. Thankfully, there are some great platforms and websites that pay great money to do freelance writing.
Websites That Will Pay You To Write
About.com – This website will hire what they call “Guides” and “Contributing Writers” on specific topics. The selection process is pretty intense as the editors really try and make sure they are only hiring experts on the specific topics. Guides and CWs can make typically at least $500-700 a month minimum with opportunity to make more depending on page views.
Examiner.com – Not as “prestigious” as About.com, this website takes on just about anybody and then pays them based on page views. I have experimented with this site and I found it difficult to build up residual income as it seemed like most money generated was based on short term trends and hits. Not exactly what I was looking for, however, I’m sure there are people who have success with it, so try it out yourself before making up your mind.
Other websites like Suite 101 are similar to Examiner. Furthermore, check out eHow where you can write “how to” articles and get paid based on page views similar to the other sites described here.
Write For Other Blogs
If you can establish some relationships with other blogs, you can become a staff writer or a paid contributor for the blogs. This effort can double as a way to promote your own blog if you are already blogging for money. Having your own blog already can only help your attempt to gain exposure and get paid to be a freelance writer. I believe that writing for your own blog and freelance writing for other blogs can go hand in hand, since they tend to reinforce eachother and you can continually showcase your writing ability.
Plus, getting paid to write content can help generate income while you wait for your own blog to ramp up. It’s tough to make money on your own blog in the beginning or during the initial launch phase, so the freelance income can help bridge that income gap.
