As I mentioned in the part entitled “Get the word out”, writing guest posts is an effective way to introduce yourself to a batch of readers and demonstrate your knowledge and expertise. Make sure you use high quality guest posts (don’t just save the good content for your own blog and use crap for guest posts). Remember, you’re trying to get readers to migrate over to your blog in order to check you out.
If you have a guest post get published on a high trafficked site and it results in a spike in traffic, consider writing a similar article that these new visitors will see that you know will be something they want to read. You want to convert these new visitors into subscribers or repeat visitors.
Guest posting also doubles as a method to get backlinks to your site. Backlinks will fuel search engine rankings and help you rise in search engine results. Search driven traffic is a major component of your growth and will be essential as you move forward. You can’t improve your search traffic without an increase in backlinks.
Work on guest posting several times a month while you build your blog. The guest posts will help bring new visitors from similar blogs and also generate quality backlinks to your site. Most bloggers are willing to accept quality, unique posts since it helps them publish continuous content.
