While more and more people are now able to create their own websites due to an improvement in technology and a more widespread adoption of web design skills, there is still high demand for people who can put together web sites.
The key to making money at home doing web design is to leverage the best technology especially the technology that allows you to not have to “recreate the wheel” with regards to much of a standard website. For example, you can build great corporate websites using Wordpress in a matter of hours. Charging a client $500 for a quick Wordpress install and configuration is probably a win-win for both your client and you and your time.
From my perspective, most of your clients will come through your already established contacts and network. Marketing web design to the masses is not a very strong strategy. Instead, get the word out to the people you know especially those who are in business for themselves.
