Welcome to the frequently asked questions at Simple Financial Freedom. Here, we will continue to add relevant questions and answers as they are presented. If you have any questions, please send them my way.
What Is Financial Freedom?
I believe that financial freedom is simply the ability to live a desired lifestyle without having to work a full time job for somebody else. While being financially free may involve some type of work, this work is something that you want to do, not have to do. This financial independence means having enough savings or alternative income to do the things you want. It might mean travelling, it might mean volunteering, it might mean becoming a high school teacher. Your life is yours. You can define what financial freedom looks like for you.
Is Your Goal To Avoid Work Because You’re Lazy?
Absolutely not! In fact, I have incredible amounts of energy that I wish to devote to things that are important to me. I struggle with sitting at a desk for 10 hours a day doing things that aren’t that important in the grand scheme of life and things that don’t energize me. I hope to be able to not be tied to a job so that I can spend my day’s working on things that matter and things that I enjoy.
What Is Your Ideal Lifestyle?
For me, my ideal lifestyle is being able to spend each day of the week doing something that I want to do. This might mean waking up and going on a six mile run, it might mean spending all day with my family, it might mean volunteering at church. Also, not being tied to a job means that I’m mobile. I have strong desires to travel with my family and friends. I don’t want to only be able to travel within the designated two weeks of “vacation time” that my employer decides is good enough for me.
Are You Trying To Retire Early?
If by retire, you mean traditional retirement where I sit on a beach and play golf every day, then, no. I do wish to be free from a desk, free from an employer. Will I play golf and sit on a beach occasionally, yes. But, I have big goals and big things that I want to accomplish. I don’t desire idleness.
